We’re going back to the Old Country!
June 25 – July 9, 2027
Join Swedish Finn Historical Society for a two-week members-only coach tour to our Swedish-Finn homeland.
What to Expect on Your Tour
We will meet in Helsinki to explore Finland’s capital city, then travel by our modern and comfortable bus to see, touch, meet, greet and learn about Finland and the history of our people. Our tour manager, Kjell Herberts, will accompany you each day to share with you his vast knowledge of all things Swede-Finn.
You’ll have the opportunity to enjoy one of the hallmarks of Finnish culture, the sauna. We’ll visit other areas in Western Finland, cities, churches, museums, and rural areas. You will have a four-day period on your own to visit your home village and to meet with family in your ancestral area of Finland. If needed, SFHS can assist you with finding your village and connecting with cousins before you go.
What’s Included & Booking Details
All travel from Helsinki and back, hotels and breakfasts (except on-your-own nights), tour and museum fees, and many dinners are included. You provide your travel to and from Finland. Our travel agent can assist, if you like. As much as possible, our itinerary will be tailored to the participants. You may also want to add additional days in Finland or in other Nordic countries. We can help with that, too. Cost will be determined by itinerary, local prices, occupancy, and US dollar/euro value. No deposit is needed until December 2026.
Here’s what past participants have said:
“It was a life-changing experience.”
“Take that first step, ask that first question, and open the door to the history waiting for you.”
“My cousin told me: ‘You are Finnish. You are family.’ I can think of no better gift this trip has given me.”
“…truly heartwarming, turning a research project into a deeply personal homecoming.”
