Korpo

Land & Livelihood

  • Korpo includes many minor islands; about 2,000 in all.
  • The main island is Korpor Kyrklandet, where the parish village Kyrkoby is located.  This island is big enough to host several villages.  3

Parish records

Because parish Communion records are listed by village and farm names and because farm names often were used as a part of a person’s name, it is interesting to note the following farms. HisKi project findings were used as a starting point to identify parish villages.  Then Parish Communion Records of 1854 – 1864 were used to confirm village and identify farm names. 9,  10 & 11

  • Completed in the early 15th century (1420 – 1430) 3
  • Has a medieval tower; not built for bells, but likely served as a fortress, where you could take refuge during troubled times 4
