Karis

Parish Records

Because parish Communion records are listed by village and farm name and because farm names often were used as a part of a person’s name, it is interesting to note the following farms. HisKi project findings were used as a starting point to identify parish villages.  Then Parish Communion Records of 1883-1892 were used to confirm villages and identify farm names. 6 & 7

Over 50 villages were identified.

St. Catherine’s Church

Parish Church

  • Likely at least one wooden church was built on the same site as the current church
  • Current graystone church built in 15th century
  • Consecrated in 1470
  • The belfry, next to the church, completed in 1768
  • One of the two bells is dated 1477 2 & 3
