Parish Records

When a parish includes city and country folks, it is not unusual for the Communion records of both to be documented in the same book. The records are divided into two parts; city and country dwellers.  This is the case for Ekenäs.

The focus of this project is on the country dwellers – ‘Ekernäs lands forsamlings folk personal’.  Specific directions for locating country records are included in the ‘Resources’ section.

Because the country dweller Communion records are listed by village and farm name and because farm names often were used as a part of a person’s name, it is interesting to note the  farms.

HisKi project findings were used as a starting point to identify parish villages. Parish Communion Records of 1869-1883 were the primary resource used to confirm village and identify farm names. 9 & 10

Of Interest

The name Ekenäs is composed of the Swedish words ‘ek’ (oak) and ‘nas’ (promontory or peninsula).
